The Author

The Union of East and West Dr Johannes Toegel, has received degrees in Christian Theology for his work on Teilhard de Chardin and Western Philosophy for his work on Transpersonal Psychology. His formal education was received in Austria and the Netherlands. He then worked as composer and arranger of jazz and pop music in Vienna. At the age of 27 he left the Western world and went into retreat in a mountain cave in the Himalayas under the guidance of a Tibetan Dzog Chen master. In this retreat-place people from many countries and most continents of the world had gathered, creating an open and international atmosphere.

After three years he returned to the West, starting to integrate the two cultural streams of East and West in not only his personal life but in his thinking as well. He has been teaching Buddhist meditation and Christian theology, given private counselling initially based on classical psychoanalysis and Jungian psychology and giving seminars on a remote farm in the Austrian Alps, where he has been gradually establishing a retreat house together with his wife Irene. During this time he was developing and testing his new philosophy, frequently travelling back to the mountain retreat in the Himalayas, to adjust his views and his works with the help of his spiritual teacher. After almost 20 years of preparation he founded the Wisdom Science Project and created the basic texts, graphics and overall structure. This work is almost completed now, and the homepage of Wisdom Science Project is online since the beginning of 2006.
